Why three electrolytes, not twenty ingredients

The back of most hydration packs reads like a vitamin aisle. We went the other way — and left things off on purpose.

Pick up most electrolyte or "hydration" powders and the ingredient list runs long: a stack of vitamins, a sprinkle of this, a trending extract of that. It looks like value. Mostly it is noise. SALT is built around three electrolytes and the reasons we kept each one.

The three, and what they're for.

Sodium is the electrolyte you lose most in sweat, so it is the one we lead with — 500 mg per serve. Potassium contributes to normal muscle function. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and to normal energy-yielding metabolism. Three minerals, each doing a clear, declared job.

What we left off — and why.

Caffeine: a stimulant, not a hydration tool. If you want a coffee, have a coffee. Long vitamin lists: stacking vitamins into a hydration drink does not make it hydrate better, and most people already get them elsewhere. A wall of sugar: classic sports drinks are sugar-led; we use just 3 g, for taste and to help your body take the sodium on board — not as the headline.

Published, not proprietary.

Every amount is on the pack and on this page — 500 mg sodium, 200 mg potassium, 60 mg magnesium, 3 g sugar. No "proprietary blend" hiding the doses. If it is in SALT, you can see how much. That is the whole point.

Less label, more work. We took everything off the panel that wasn't doing a clear job, then put more of what was.

Authorised health-claim references: Potassium contributes to normal muscle function. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function. Magnesium contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism.
